Job Overview
This role is part of Siemens Energy’s initiative to expand smart grid technologies across Zimbabwe. The Smart Grid Engineer will design, implement, and optimize next-generation power distribution systems, integrating renewable energy sources and advanced automation. The position is based in Chirundu, a strategic hub for energy projects in central Zimbabwe.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deploy smart grid solutions, including advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) and distribution automation systems.
- Conduct technical assessments of existing power networks to identify modernization opportunities.
- Collaborate with local utilities to integrate solar and wind energy into the grid.
- Monitor grid performance using real-time analytics and predictive maintenance tools.
- Provide technical training to local teams on smart grid operations and cybersecurity protocols.
Required Skills
- Expertise in smart grid technologies, including SCADA systems and IoT-enabled grid devices.
- Proficiency in power system modeling software (e.g., PSS/E, ETAP).
- Experience with grid cybersecurity standards (e.g., NIST, IEC 62443).
- Strong project management skills for multi-disciplinary teams.
- Fluency in English and working knowledge of local languages (e.g., Shona, Ndebele).
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. A Master’s in Energy Systems or Power Engineering is preferred.
Experience
3-5 years of experience in power grid design or energy technology projects, with a focus on smart grid implementation in developing markets.
Salary
120,000 – 150,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
