Job Overview
This role leads initiatives to implement community-based natural resource management (CBNRM) programs in Chirinda. The specialist will bridge ecological science with grassroots community needs, ensuring sustainable use of forests, wildlife, and water systems while fostering economic opportunities for local populations. The position requires collaboration with traditional leaders, government agencies, and conservation partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement CBNRM programs that integrate ecological conservation with community development goals
- Conduct stakeholder consultations with local communities, NGOs, and government bodies
- Monitor biodiversity and ecosystem health in designated conservation zones
- Develop training programs for community members on sustainable resource use
- Prepare reports for donors and regulatory agencies on project outcomes
- Coordinate anti-poaching initiatives and wildlife habitat restoration projects
Required Skills
- Expertise in community engagement and participatory conservation planning
- Proficiency in GIS mapping and environmental impact assessment tools
- Strong project management and cross-cultural communication skills
- Knowledge of Zimbabwean environmental policies and CBNRM frameworks
- Ability to conduct fieldwork in remote natural environments
- Fluency in Shona or other local languages is an advantage
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, or related field
- Postgraduate qualification in Community Development or Conservation Biology preferred
Experience
- 3-5 years in natural resource management or environmental conservation
- Proven experience working with rural communities in Southern Africa
- Track record in securing and managing conservation grants
Salary
250,000 – 350,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience.
