Job Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically proficient Agricultural Extension Officer to join our field operations team in Boffa, Liberia. This role is critical to our mission of enhancing agricultural productivity and promoting sustainable farming techniques among smallholder farmers. The successful candidate will act as a bridge between scientific research and practical field application, ensuring that farmers have access to the latest technologies, improved seed varieties, and efficient water management techniques. This position involves extensive field travel, community engagement, and the implementation of climate-smart agricultural practices to ensure long-term food security in the region. You will be responsible for training local farmers, monitoring crop health, and facilitating access to micro-finance and market linkages.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field demonstrations of modern, sustainable farming techniques to local smallholder farmers.
  • Provide technical assistance to farmers regarding soil health, pest management, and irrigation.
  • Monitor and report on the progress of agricultural projects within the Boffa region.
  • Facilitate training workshops on climate-resilient crop varieties and post-harvest handling.

Experience

Applicants must possess at least 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in agricultural extension services, preferably in a West African context. Proven experience working directly with smallholder farmers and managing community-based development projects is essential. Experience in monitoring and evaluation (M&E) within the agricultural sector is a significant advantage.

Salary

The monthly salary for this position ranges from 45,000 SSP to 65,000 SSP, depending on experience and qualifications. This package is competitive within the local market for specialized agricultural roles.
