Job Overview
The Wind Turbine Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and safety of wind turbines at the Mvurwi wind farm. This role involves routine inspections, troubleshooting, corrective maintenance, and collaboration with cross‑functional teams to implement best practices. The engineer will also contribute to data‑driven performance optimisation and support the training of local technicians. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance on all turbine components, including gearboxes, blades, generators, and control systems.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults using diagnostic tools and OEM manuals.
- Coordinate with the Operations team to plan maintenance windows that minimise downtime.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, service reports, and spare parts inventory.
- Implement condition‑based monitoring techniques and analyse performance data to predict failures.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations on site.
- Mentor and train local technicians on best practices and safety procedures.
- Collaborate with Vestas’ global engineering support for complex technical issues.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of wind turbine mechanical and electrical systems.
- Proficiency with SCADA systems, PLC programming, and diagnostic software.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and OEM manuals.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills for reporting and teamwork.
- Commitment to safety protocols and continuous improvement.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Vestas Certified Service Engineer, IEC 61400, or equivalent are highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of five years’ hands‑on experience in wind turbine maintenance or a comparable heavy‑industry environment (e.g., hydro, offshore platforms). Experience working in African or emerging markets is an advantage.
Salary
The competitive salary range is SSP 300,000 to SSP 500,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and allowances for travel and accommodation are included.
