Job Overview

The Precision Mining Ventilation Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, and monitoring of complex ventilation systems to ensure a safe and healthy underground working environment. This role is critical for managing atmospheric contaminants, regulating temperature, and ensuring the efficient flow of oxygen to all active mining faces. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive primary and secondary ventilation designs using Ventsim or similar software.
  • Conduct regular atmospheric monitoring and gas testing to ensure levels of methane, CO, and NOx remain within safe limits.
  • Optimize the placement and operation of main fans, booster fans, and auxiliary ventilation ducting.
  • Collaborate with the geotechnical team to assess the impact of rock mass stability on ventilation airways.
  • Design and oversee the installation of ventilation bulkheads, regulators, and air-crossings.
  • Prepare detailed ventilation reports and compliance audits for regulatory bodies.
  • Lead the emergency response planning for underground fire and smoke management.

Required Skills

  • Expert proficiency in Ventsim, Surpac, or other 3D mine ventilation modeling tools.
  • Deep understanding of fluid dynamics and thermodynamics as applied to underground mining.
  • Strong analytical skills for interpreting gas sensor data and airflow measurements.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in high-pressure underground environments.
  • Excellent communication skills for reporting technical risks to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of international mine safety legislation and environmental regulations.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering is mandatory. A specialization or postgraduate certification in Ventilation Engineering or Fluid Mechanics is highly preferred. Professional registration with a recognized engineering board is an added advantage.

Experience

Candidates must possess 5 to 8 years of proven experience in underground ventilation design and management. Experience in deep-level mining or complex orebody geometries is essential.
