Job Overview
The Network Optimization Engineer will play a pivotal role in enhancing the performance, reliability, and capacity of Econet’s radio access network (RAN) across the Gweru region and surrounding areas. Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as RRC success rate, handover success, and data throughput to identify optimization opportunities.
- Conduct drive‑test and remote‑monitoring campaigns to collect RF measurements and validate network performance.
- Develop and implement optimization plans, including parameter tuning, antenna tilt adjustments, and load balancing.
- Collaborate with Radio Planning, Core Network, and Operations teams to ensure seamless integration of new sites and technology upgrades.
- Prepare detailed technical reports and present findings to senior management and stakeholders.
- Participate in network rollout projects, providing optimization input during design, deployment, and post‑launch phases.
- Stay updated on emerging 4G/5G technologies, industry standards, and best practices to drive continuous improvement.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in network performance tools (e.g., TEMS, Nemo, NetAct, OSS).
- Hands‑on experience with LTE and emerging 5G radio technologies.
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities and a data‑driven mindset.
- Effective communication skills for cross‑team collaboration and stakeholder reporting.
- Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, Bash) for automation of data analysis.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple optimization projects simultaneously.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Cisco CCNA, Nokia NRS, or Huawei Certified Network Professional (HCNP) are advantageous but not mandatory.
Experience
Applicants must have 3‑5 years of proven experience in telecom network optimization, RF planning, or performance analysis within a mobile operator environment. Experience with both 4G LTE and early‑stage 5G deployments is highly valued.
Salary
