Job Overview

The Data Science Manager will lead a multidisciplinary team of data scientists, analysts, and engineers to design, develop, and operationalize advanced analytics solutions that drive business insights for IBM’s clients in Zimbabwe and the broader region. You will be responsible for translating complex data sets into actionable strategies, overseeing model development, and ensuring the delivery of high‑quality analytical products. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end‑to‑end lifecycle of data science projects, from problem definition and data acquisition to model deployment and performance monitoring.
  • Collaborate with client stakeholders to understand business objectives and translate them into analytical solutions that deliver measurable value.
  • Mentor and develop junior data scientists, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing, best practices, and continuous improvement.
  • Design and implement scalable machine learning pipelines using Python, R, Spark, and cloud services.
  • Ensure data governance, security, and compliance with local regulations throughout all analytical processes.
  • Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership and client executives in clear, compelling formats.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation within the Data Analytics department.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms, and data mining techniques.
  • Strong programming skills in Python or R, with experience in SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms such as IBM Cloud, AWS, or Azure.
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities and a data‑driven mindset.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey complex concepts to non‑technical audiences.
  • Leadership experience managing cross‑functional teams in a fast‑paced environment.

Education

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline is required. Advanced degrees (MSc or PhD) are highly desirable and will be considered an asset.

Experience

Applicants should have 5‑7 years of professional experience in data science or advanced analytics, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role. Experience delivering analytics solutions in sectors such as finance, manufacturing, or telecommunications within Zimbabwe or the broader African market is advantageous.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 600,000 to SSP 900,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health benefits, and a retirement savings plan.
