This role is central to designing and optimizing aquaponics systems that integrate aquaculture and hydroponics for maximum efficiency. The successful candidate will work on next-generation closed-loop systems that reduce water usage by 90% compared to traditional farming methods. Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement aquaponics systems tailored to Zimbabwe’s climate and agricultural needs
- Conduct feasibility studies for new aquaponics projects in urban and rural locations
- Optimize water recirculation systems and nutrient balance for maximum crop and fish yields
- Collaborate with engineers and agronomists to integrate IoT sensors for real-time system monitoring
- Prepare technical documentation and training materials for system operators
- Monitor and improve system performance through data analysis and continuous improvement
Required Skills
- Expertise in aquaponics system design and operation
- Proficiency in CAD software for system modeling
- Strong understanding of water chemistry and biological filtration
- Experience with IoT-based monitoring systems
- Excellent problem-solving skills for system troubleshooting
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field. Advanced degrees in Sustainable Agriculture or Aquaculture are a plus.
Experience
3-5 years of experience in aquaponics system design, hydroponics, or integrated aquaculture systems. Experience with Zimbabwe’s agricultural context is preferred.
Salary
200,000 – 300,000 SSP per month, depending on experience and qualifications.
