Job Overview

The International Freight Forwarding Coordinator will manage the full lifecycle of export and import shipments, coordinating with carriers, customs authorities, and internal stakeholders to ensure seamless movement of goods. You will act as the primary point of contact for clients, providing proactive updates, troubleshooting issues, and delivering value‑added services such as cargo insurance and compliance consulting. Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and monitor international shipments from origin to destination, ensuring adherence to schedules and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and verify export/import documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, and customs declarations.
  • Liaise with customs brokers, freight carriers, and inland transport providers to resolve delays, discrepancies, or compliance issues.
  • Provide clients with accurate freight quotations, transit times, and status updates, fostering strong relationships and repeat business.
  • Maintain shipment records in DHL’s internal systems, ensuring data integrity and timely reporting.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and service optimization within the freight forwarding workflow.
  • Stay current with international trade regulations, sanctions, and industry best practices to mitigate risk.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Incoterms, customs procedures, and international trade documentation.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with a focus on detail orientation.
  • Proficient in logistics software (e.g., DHL’s proprietary platforms, SAP, or similar ERP systems).
  • Effective communication skills in English; proficiency in Shona or Ndebele is an advantage.
  • Ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Customer‑focused mindset with a commitment to delivering high‑quality service.

Education

A bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, International Trade or a related discipline is required. Relevant certifications such as FIATA, IATA, or customs brokerage qualifications are considered a plus.

Experience

Applicants should possess three to five years of hands‑on experience in international freight forwarding, customs clearance, or a similar logistics role. Experience working with multinational clients and exposure to multimodal transport (air, sea, road) will be highly valued.
