Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Occupational Health and Safety Specialist to lead our safety protocols and compliance initiatives at our Nimba facility. This role is critical in ensuring that all manufacturing and assembly processes adhere to international safety standards and local regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs designed to mitigate risks and prevent workplace accidents. You will work closely with site management and engineering teams to integrate safety into every stage of the production lifecycle. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive occupational health and safety management systems (OHSMS) tailored to heavy machinery manufacturing.
- Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with international standards.
- Lead incident investigations and perform root cause analysis to prevent recurrence of workplace accidents.
- Design and deliver specialized safety training programs for diverse workforces, including technical and non-technical staff.
- Collaborate with the engineering department to ensure machine guarding and ergonomic standards are met during the design phase.
- Monitor and report on key safety performance indicators (KPIs) to senior management.
- Ensure all operations comply with Liberian labor laws and international environmental and safety regulations.
Required Skills
- Advanced knowledge of ISO 45001 and other international safety management standards.
- Expertise in conducting quantitative and qualitative risk assessments in an industrial setting.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence safety culture across multiple departments.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex safety challenges.
- Proficiency in technical reporting and data analysis related to safety metrics.
- Effective communication skills for training and stakeholder engagement.
Education
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Science, or a closely related technical field is required. Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, CSP (Certified Safety Professional), or equivalent international accreditation are highly preferred.
Experience
Candidates must possess a minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in occupational health and safety within a heavy manufacturing, mining, or large-scale industrial environment. Proven experience in leading safety teams and managing complex compliance audits is essential. Experience working in West African industrial sectors is a significant advantage for this role.
Salary
The annual salary for this position is competitive and ranges from 450,000 SSP to 650,000 SSP, depending on experience, qualifications, and performance metrics. This package reflects the seniority and specialized nature of the role.
