Job Overview

This role is ideal for a passionate professional committed to safeguarding Zimbabwe’s cultural heritage. The Cultural Heritage Preservation Specialist will lead initiatives to assess, document, and protect heritage sites in Nyanga and surrounding regions. The position requires collaboration with local communities, government agencies, and international partners to ensure long-term preservation of historical landmarks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field assessments of heritage sites to identify preservation needs.
  • Develop and implement conservation plans for at-risk cultural sites.
  • Collaborate with local communities to promote heritage awareness and sustainable practices.
  • Coordinate with government bodies to ensure compliance with heritage protection regulations.
  • Prepare reports and documentation for grant applications and project funding.

Required Skills

  • Proven expertise in cultural heritage preservation methodologies.
  • Strong project management and stakeholder coordination skills.
  • Knowledge of heritage site documentation and digital mapping tools.
  • Excellent communication and community engagement abilities.
  • Fluency in Shona or Ndebele is a plus.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or Cultural Heritage Management.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in Heritage Conservation are advantageous.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3–5 years in heritage preservation or related fields.
  • Experience managing heritage projects in African contexts.

Salary

200,000 – 300,000 SSP per annum, commensurate with experience.
