Job Overview

The Biodiversity Monitoring Specialist will lead field-based assessments of wildlife populations, habitat health, and ecosystem dynamics in Binga’s protected areas. This role is critical to Conservation International’s mission to provide data-driven insights for conservation strategies. The position requires collaboration with local stakeholders, government agencies, and international partners to ensure effective biodiversity management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field surveys to monitor wildlife populations, plant species, and ecosystem health.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret biodiversity data using GIS and statistical tools.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations for stakeholders and funding bodies.
  • Coordinate with local communities to promote conservation awareness and sustainable practices.
  • Collaborate with government agencies to align monitoring efforts with national conservation policies.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS) and data analysis tools (R, Python).
  • Strong fieldwork experience in remote and challenging environments.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of Zimbabwe’s biodiversity and conservation frameworks.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field. A Master’s Degree is an advantage.

Experience

3-5 years of experience in biodiversity monitoring, environmental research, or conservation project management. Experience in the KAZA region is preferred.

Salary

150,000 – 250,000 SSP per month, depending on experience.
