Job Overview

The AI Ethics Officer will lead the development, implementation, and governance of ethical standards for artificial intelligence and machine learning initiatives across Google Zimbabwe. Reporting to the Head of Ethics & Compliance, you will work closely with product managers, engineers, legal counsel, and external stakeholders to ensure that AI systems are designed, deployed, and maintained responsibly. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain an AI ethics framework that aligns with global best practices and local regulations.
• Conduct risk assessments for AI projects, identifying potential biases, privacy concerns, and societal impacts.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to embed ethical considerations throughout the AI development lifecycle.
• Provide guidance on data governance, model interpretability, and fairness metrics.
• Lead internal training sessions and workshops on AI ethics for cross‑functional teams.
• Engage with external experts, academic institutions, and civil society to stay abreast of emerging ethical standards.
• Prepare comprehensive reports for senior leadership and regulatory bodies.
• Monitor compliance with the AI ethics policy and recommend continuous improvements.

Required Skills

• Deep understanding of AI/ML technologies, data science, and algorithmic bias mitigation.
• Strong knowledge of privacy laws, data protection regulations, and ethical guidelines relevant to Zimbabwe and international markets.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a strategic mindset.
• Exceptional communication skills, capable of translating complex technical concepts into clear, actionable policies.
• Proven experience in stakeholder management and cross‑functional collaboration.
• Ability to lead workshops, training sessions, and public speaking engagements.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Ethics, Law, Philosophy, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or advanced certification in AI ethics, data governance, or a comparable field is highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of five years of professional experience in AI ethics, data governance, compliance, or a related area. Prior experience within a multinational technology firm or a regulatory environment is advantageous.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 600,000 to SSP 900,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses and equity incentives.
