Job Overview

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead our subsurface investigation and foundation design efforts for major infrastructure projects in the Lofa region. This role is critical to the success of our construction operations, ensuring that all structural foundations are designed with precision based on accurate soil and rock mechanics data. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage comprehensive geotechnical site investigations, including borehole drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing.
  • Perform complex calculations and modeling for shallow and deep foundation designs, including piles, caissons, and retaining structures.
  • Analyze soil and rock laboratory test results to provide actionable engineering recommendations.
  • Develop and review geotechnical reports, technical specifications, and construction drawings.
  • Collaborate with structural engineers and project managers to ensure geotechnical designs align with overall project requirements.
  • Supervise field technicians and laboratory staff to ensure compliance with international testing standards.
  • Assess slope stability and seismic risks for various infrastructure components.
  • Provide technical oversight during the construction phase to monitor soil behavior and foundation installation.

Required Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in geotechnical modeling software such as Plaxis, GeoStudio, or similar industry-standard tools.
  • Expert knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and foundation engineering principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills related to complex geological challenges.
  • Excellent technical writing skills for producing detailed geotechnical reports.
  • Ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Deep understanding of international geotechnical testing standards (ASTM, Eurocode, etc.).

Education

A Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related field is mandatory. A PhD in a specialized geotechnical discipline is highly preferred. Candidates must demonstrate a strong academic background in soil mechanics and structural geology.

Experience

A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in geotechnical engineering is required. Proven experience in large-scale infrastructure projects, such as highways, bridges, or dams, is essential. Experience working in West African or similar tropical geological environments is a significant advantage. Candidates must have a track record of managing complex site investigations and providing high-level technical consultancy.

Salary

The offered salary for this position is between 45,000 SSP and 65,000 SSP per month, depending on the candidate’s expertise and experience level. This competitive package reflects the high level of technical expertise required for this role.
