Job Summary

The University is seeking a qualified and experienced Horticulture Technician to provide technical support for horticulture and crop science activities within the Agro-Industrial Park. The successful candidate will assist academic staff, researchers, and students while supporting horticultural production, research trials, and departmental projects.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to academic staff and researchers in Crop Science and Horticulture
  • Assist in conducting horticulture and crop science laboratory practicals
  • Support planning and implementation of horticultural research operations
  • Participate in departmental income-generating projects at the Agro-Industrial Park
  • Collect, collate, and capture horticulture research trial data
  • Monitor consumable stock levels and advise on re-ordering requirements
  • Demonstrate proper use of horticulture equipment to students and staff
  • Assist in the development of quality standards for laboratories and research facilities
  • Service and maintain horticultural tools, machinery, and equipment
  • Maintain inventory records for machinery and equipment
  • Supervise junior staff and field assistants
  • Assist in departmental budgeting and operational planning
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Horticulture Manager

Education Requirements

Applicants must possess:

  • Diploma in Agriculture, Crop Science, Horticulture, or equivalent qualification
  • Higher National Diploma or Degree in a related field will be an added advantage
  • Additional certifications in horticulture production or agronomy will be beneficial

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years’ hands-on experience in a commercial horticulture or agricultural environment
  • Experience in horticulture production and crop management systems
