Job Description

Role Overview

We are seeking a Telecommunications & Network Automation Engineer to support the design, optimization, and maintenance of network infrastructure and automation systems at Econet Wireless Zimbabwe. The role focuses on enhancing network performance, developing automation solutions for network operations, and ensuring high availability of mobile and data services.

Key Responsibilities
Network Engineering & Optimization

Assist in planning, configuring, and optimizing mobile (GSM/UMTS/LTE/5G) and data networks.

Monitor network performance KPIs and troubleshoot network degradation issues.

Implement network upgrades, expansions, and capacity enhancements.

Network Automation & Systems Integration

Develop and maintain automation scripts and workflows for network provisioning, fault management, and performance monitoring.

Integrate network management systems (NMS) with OSS/BSS platforms.

Implement automation solutions using Python, Ansible, Terraform, or similar tools.

Technical Support & Troubleshooting

Provide technical support to field and operations teams for network issues.

Perform root‑cause analysis and corrective actions for network outages.

Maintain and update network documentation and alarm escalation procedures.

Security & Compliance

Ensure network configurations and automation systems comply with security best practices and regulatory standards.

Participate in vulnerability assessments and remediation planning.

Continuous Improvement

Identify opportunities for network automation enhancements and operational efficiencies.

Collaborate with cross‑functional teams on projects related to IoT, cloud networking, and digital services.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Network Engineering, or a related field.

3–5 years of relevant experience in telecom network operations, network automation, or systems engineering.

Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills

Strong understanding of mobile network technologies (GSM/UMTS/LTE/5G).

Experience with network monitoring tools, OSS/BSS platforms, and NMS tools.

Proficiency in scripting and automation (Python, Bash, Ansible).

Knowledge of routing and switching (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS).

Familiarity with cloud networking and virtualization technologies is an added advantage.

Soft Skills

Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.

Excellent communication for cross‑team coordination.

Ability to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic engineering environment.
