Job Overview

The Chief Sustainability Officer will lead Nedbank Zimbabwe’s sustainability and ESG initiatives, ensuring alignment with global standards and local regulations. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive ESG strategy that supports Nedbank Zimbabwe’s business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the integration of sustainability metrics into risk management, product development, and investment decisions.
  • Oversee the preparation and publication of ESG reports, disclosures, and sustainability communications.
  • Engage with regulators, industry bodies, NGOs, and investors to promote best practices and collaborative initiatives.
  • Drive internal awareness and training programs to embed a sustainability culture across all departments.
  • Monitor emerging ESG trends, climate risks, and policy changes to advise senior leadership.
  • Ensure alignment of sustainability goals with the bank’s financial performance and corporate governance.

Required Skills

  • Deep knowledge of ESG frameworks such as SASB, GRI, TCFD, and UN PRI.
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive cross‑functional change.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in sustainability reporting and data management.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities, both written and verbal.
  • Strategic thinking with a track record of developing and implementing sustainability initiatives.
  • Understanding of the Zimbabwean financial regulatory environment and local sustainability challenges.

Education

A Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Business Administration, Sustainable Finance, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as CFA Institute ESG Investing Certificate, GRI Standards Certified Training, or equivalent are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of ten years of progressive experience in sustainability, ESG, risk management, or related fields, with at least five years in a senior leadership role within the banking or financial services sector.

Salary

The successful candidate will receive a competitive annual salary ranging from SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 4,000,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications, along with performance‑based incentives.
