Job Overview

The Aerospace Engineering Manager will lead the aircraft engineering department, overseeing maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) activities, ensuring compliance with international aviation standards, and driving engineering projects that enhance fleet reliability and performance. This role reports directly to the Chief Technical Officer and collaborates closely with flight operations, safety, and procurement teams. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the engineering team of 40+ technicians, engineers, and specialists, ensuring effective workflow and high morale.
• Develop and implement maintenance programs that align with manufacturer recommendations and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee the planning and execution of major checks, modifications, and upgrades for the airline’s fleet.
• Coordinate with regulatory bodies such as the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe to maintain airworthiness certifications.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including lean processes, reliability centered maintenance, and cost reduction strategies.
• Manage the engineering budget, negotiate contracts with vendors, and ensure optimal use of resources.
• Provide technical expertise during incident investigations and support safety management systems.
• Mentor junior engineers, facilitate knowledge transfer, and promote professional development within the department.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards across all engineering activities.

Required Skills

• Strong leadership and people management abilities with a track record of building high‑performing teams.
• In‑depth knowledge of aircraft systems, maintenance procedures, and regulatory frameworks (EASA, ICAO, CAZ).

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications such as Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) or Certified Aviation Manager (CAM) are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during selection.

Experience

Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience in aircraft engineering, with at least three (3) years in a supervisory or managerial role. Experience with commercial jet fleets, familiarity with MRO best practices, and prior exposure to regulatory compliance are essential.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 500,000 to SSP 800,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based incentives, health insurance, and retirement benefits.
