This role is based in Chiredzi, a region known for its ancient rock art and historical significance.

Job Overview

This position focuses on documenting and digitizing cultural heritage sites in Chiredzi and surrounding areas. The specialist will collaborate with local communities, historians, and archaeologists to create a comprehensive archive of Zimbabwe’s heritage for educational and preservation purposes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field surveys to document archaeological sites, rock art, and historical landmarks.
  • Create digital records, 3D models, and photographic archives of heritage assets.
  • Collaborate with local communities to gather oral histories and traditional knowledge.

  • Prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders, including government bodies and international partners.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in GIS mapping and 3D modeling software (e.g., SketchUp, AutoCAD).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Shona/Ndebele.
  • Experience in cultural heritage documentation and preservation standards.
  • Ability to work in remote and challenging field conditions.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or Cultural Heritage Management. A Master’s Degree is an advantage.

Experience

3-5 years of experience in cultural heritage documentation, preferably in African contexts. Fieldwork experience in archaeological or historical preservation is required.

Salary

80,000 – 120,000 SSP per month, depending on experience.
