Job Overview
The Network Security Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust security solutions for MTN Zimbabwe’s core and access networks. Key Responsibilities
- Design and deploy network security architectures, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and VPN solutions.
- Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing on network devices and services.
- Monitor security events using SIEM tools, analyze alerts, and coordinate incident response activities.
- Develop and enforce security policies, standards, and procedures aligned with industry frameworks such as ISO 27001 and NIST.
- Collaborate with network engineering, operations, and product teams to integrate security controls into new deployments and upgrades.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior security staff and network engineers.
- Maintain up‑to‑date documentation of security configurations, incident reports, and compliance evidence.
- Participate in security audits, risk assessments, and regulatory compliance reviews.
- Stay current with emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and security technologies relevant to telecommunications.
- Support business continuity planning and disaster recovery testing for network infrastructure.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, MPLS, LTE) and security technologies.
- Hands‑on experience with firewalls (e.g., Palo Alto, Fortinet), IDS/IPS, VPN, and endpoint protection solutions.
- Proficiency in security monitoring tools such as Splunk, QRadar, or ArcSight.
- Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, Bash) for automation and log analysis.
- Understanding of regulatory requirements affecting telecoms, including GDPR and local data protection laws.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple security incidents simultaneously.
- Certification such as CISSP, CCNP Security, or CEH is highly desirable.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Advanced degrees or specialized certifications will be considered an advantage.
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience in network security, preferably within a telecommunications environment. Experience with large‑scale carrier networks and exposure to international security standards is essential.
Salary
