Job Overview

The Chief Data Privacy Officer (CDPO) will lead TelOne’s privacy program, ensuring that all data processing activities align with the Zimbabwe Data Protection Act, GDPR where applicable, and industry best practices. Reporting directly to the Chief Legal Officer, the CDPO will develop, implement, and monitor privacy policies, conduct impact assessments, and serve as the primary liaison with regulators, auditors, and external partners. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and enforce a comprehensive data privacy framework that complies with local and international regulations.
  • Lead privacy impact assessments (PIAs) for new products, services, and technology initiatives.
  • Advise senior leadership on privacy risks, mitigation strategies, and regulatory developments.
  • Develop and deliver privacy training programs for employees at all levels.
  • Manage data subject access requests (DSARs) and ensure timely, accurate responses.
  • Coordinate with the IT security team to integrate privacy controls into system architectures.
  • Oversee incident response related to data breaches, including notification procedures and root‑cause analysis.
  • Maintain documentation, audit trails, and reporting mechanisms for regulatory inspections.
  • Collaborate with legal, compliance, marketing, and product teams to embed privacy by design.
  • Represent TelOne in industry forums, conferences, and regulatory consultations.

Required Skills

  • Deep knowledge of the Zimbabwe Data Protection Act, GDPR, and other relevant privacy regulations.
  • Proven experience in privacy program leadership within telecommunications or a similarly regulated industry.
  • Strong analytical and risk‑assessment capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
  • Ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical business processes.
  • Familiarity with data security standards such as ISO 27001, NIST, and SOC 2.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Law, Information Security, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPP/A, CIPM, or CISSP are highly preferred and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development.

Experience

Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience in data privacy, information security, or compliance, with at least five (5) years in a senior leadership role. Experience within the telecommunications sector or a large, data‑intensive organization is essential to understand the unique challenges of network data, customer communications, and regulatory oversight.

Salary
